Ebook Publishers - a New Wave
Ebook publishing has dramatically changed modern life by making information and communication easier than
ever. Educational institutions have embraced the Internet enthusiastically, using blogs, web pages and
ebooks to present information. Now the ebook is becoming accepted by the masses, with a wealth of information
appearing in ebook format for nearly everyone.
An ebook is an electronic book. It contains information in digital form, easily
downloadable, and readable on a variety of platforms and readers. Ebooks can be created in several ways.
Some are produced by scanning documents with an Optical Character Reading (OCR) program. Others are created,
edited and published electronically using special software designed for the purpose. There are several formats for
Ebooks, but the most popular is the portable document format (PDF). PDF ebooks can be displayed with special
effects using gray scale or color images, notes, and animation including video and music. The electronic book
market is appealing and exciting because ebooks are popular, and it's easy to create and use information
interactively.
Ebooks and ebook publishers are subject to copyright laws. Ebooks can't be copied or
distributed to others without permission. They are cheap to produce and provide advantages to ebook publishers
by virtue of low production and storage costs, no requirement for printing and the ability to instantly deliver the
publication electronically. This makes ebooks a cost-effective product line for authors and publishers.
Ebooks were initially used for non-fiction text. When ebooks first appeared they
were used primarily for non-fiction intended to present information or instruction. Now that they
have become more popular and become more usable, they have been applied to a greater variety of documents.
Today, you can find them as electronic magazines or ezines, academic texts and journals, comics and
graphic novels, books of poetry and small novels.
The ebook publishing industry is growing rapidly and with electronic reading machines like
the iPad, the Amazon Kindle, the Sony PRS-700 and the Barnes & Noble Nook, the ebook is becoming
a better alternative to hardcopy books and magazines.
As ebook document readers become more intelligent, it will become easier to tailor advertising in ebook
magazines to the tastes and interests of the owner of the reading device. Advertising revenue may make
it more profitable to produce ebooks and they should become more available than they are
today.
When this happens ebook publishers will be in a good position, especially if they are able to adapt quickly to
the variety of formats and physical readers that are bound to appear.
